Barack Hussein Obama II born August 4, 1961 is the President-elect of the United States of America, and the first
African American to be elected President of the United States. Obama was the junior United States Senator from Illinois from January 3, 2005, until his resignation on November 16, 2008, following his election to the presidency. His term of office as President of the United States is has begin after he is sworn in as the forty-fourth President of the United States at inaugural ceremony at the U.S. Capitol.


He practiced as a Civil rights attorney in Chicago before serving three terms in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. He also taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004. Following an unsuccessful bid for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000, Obama was elected to the Senate in November 2004.Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School.
Obama lead to create legislation to control conventional weapons and to promote greater public accountability in the use of federal funds. He also made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
He created legislation regarding lobbying and electoral fraud, climate change, nuclear terrorism.
Obama moved to Los Angeles, where he studied at Occidental College for two years.He then transferred to Columbia University in New York City, where he majored in political science with a specialization in international relations.Obama graduated with a B.A. from Columbia in 1983. He worked for a year at the Business International Corporation and then at the New York Public Interest Research Group.
Obama was elected to the Illinois Senate in 1996, succeeding State Senator Alice Palmer as Senator from Illinois's 13th District.On February 10, 2007, Obama announced his candidacy for President of the United States in front of the Old State Capitol building in Springfield, Illinois.The choice of the announcement site was symbolic because it was also where Abraham Lincoln delivered his historic "House Divided" speech in 1858.

Obama announced on November 13, 2008 that he would resign his senate seat on November 16, 2008, before the start of the lame-duck session, to focus on his transition period for the presidency.On August 23, 2008, Obama selected Delaware Senator Joe Biden as his vice presidential running mate

In November, Obama won the presidency with 53% of the popular vote and a wide electoral college margin.

Obama plays basketball, a sport he participated in as a member of his high school's varsity team.

Obama towards India

Obama, who has edged past rival Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries, said it is his commitment to the critical relationship between the two countries that he voted for the US-India nuclear energy deal on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee."And that is why I will move forward to build a close strategic partnership between the US and India when I am president of the United States," he added.Obama said Washington and New Delhi must work together to combat the common threats of the 21st century because "both countries have been victims of catastrophic terrorist attacks and we have a shared interest in succeeding in the fight against Al Qaeda and its
operational and ideological affiliates".
He also referred to his proposal long before the declaration of martial law in Pakistan that the US needed to "condition our assistance to the Pakistani government so that we encourage stronger action against Al Qaeda and a restoration of democracy". Obama also spoke about his admiration for Mahatma Gandhi, whose portrait hangs prominently in his Senate office.
